MARIO ALEXANDER MEALLET, M.D.
I am a graduate of Harvard Medical School and have been with the Beeve Foundation since 2005. I completed my ophthalmology residency at the Doheny Eye Institute at USC and then completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at the Bascom Palmer eye institute. I served as Assistant Chief of Ophthalmology at USC for six years and am now in private practice in North Hollywood. I provide our Fiji patients with cornea transplants, cataract extractions, and pterygium excisions.
REY PANGILINAN, M.D.
I completed a four year residency program at West Virginia University School of Medicine and then a 2 Year Cornea and External Disease/Refractive Surgery program at Doheny Eye Institute. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine/LA County USC, Medical Center. I am also the Corneal and LASIK specialist for the Metropolitan Los Angeles Medical Center Kaiser Permanente. I joined Fiji 4 Sight at Turtle Island in 1997. I provide our Fiji patients with Cornea transplants, Cataract with IOL implants, pterygium surgery, and of course eye exams with glasses.
SCOTT BEEVE, M.D, FACS
I completed my Medical Doctorate in 1996 from Loma Linda University and my Ophthalmology Residency in 2000 from University of Texas Medical Branch. I am Board Certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. My specialties are cataract, pterygium, LASIK, glaucoma, and eyelid surgeries. I have been voted the Best Ophthalmologist in Glendale and local foothill communities for many years. I have been serving as part of our team in Fiji since 1995. I provided Fiji with eye examinations, and cataract and pterygium surgeries. I also volunteered to perform a laser vision correction for one Fiji patient here in the USA.
JONATHON SONG, M.D.
I completed my Residency program at LA County USC Medical Center, Doheny Eye Residency program. My fellowship in Pediatric ophthalmology was completed in 1998 and Cornea fellowship in 1999. I stayed on the teaching staff as an assistant professor. I became a clinical instructor in four eye subspecialties for USC Doheny. I provide our Fiji patients with Cornea transplants, Cataract with IOL implants, and strabismus surgery for adults and children.
ERVIN FANG, M.D.
I completed my residency program at the University of Florida in 1993 and my fellowship in Glaucoma at the Washington University, St. Louis in 1994. I am a specialist in cataract surgery with intraocular lens implant at the Los Angeles Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. I always assist the nurse and operating room staff in preparing each patient and room for each procedure, here and in Fiji. I joined Fiji 4 Sight in about 2002 at Turtle Island and continued on in Savusavu. I provide our Fijian patients with Cataract with IOL implants, pterygium surgery, and, of course, eye exams with glasses.
STEPHEN J. SKAHEN, M.D.
I completed my undergraduate education at Indiana University, Bloomington. I graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in June of 1980. After serving an Internal Medicine internship at Kettering Medical Center, I completed my residency in Anesthesiology at Loma Linda and my Fellowship in Neurosurgical Anesthesia at USC. I practiced with Dr. Beeve for six years where I began giving ocular regional blocks. I am a partner in Newport Harbor Anesthesia and have practiced at Hoag Memorial in Newport Beach for over 21 years. I consider it a privilege to have served with Dr. Beeve for the first 20 trips to Fiji. My entire family have taken part in Fiji 4 Sight. My wife Sandy is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Elder Law at Chapman University.
Anis Yusuf, M.D.
I was born on the 18th April 1960 in Fiji. My father was trade commissioner for Fiji during the Reagan era and Ambassador during the Bush Senior era. I completed my primary and secondary school in Fiji. I then completed high school education in Auckland New Zealand
I earned a medical degree at University of Otago, New Zealand and entered anesthesia training in Wellington, New Zealand under the auspices of College of Anesthesia of Australia and New Zealand. My professional practice is in Sydney Australia as an anesthesiologist.
I volunteered for eye team in the Tuvalu Pacific Islands with the Ausaid team for 10 years, and I have been a member for the Fiji 4 Sight team for 7 years.
I speak English, Hindi, and Fijian.
